Scholarship Details:
Michigan State University (MSU) is a renowned public land-grant research university located in East Lansing, Michigan. It was established in 1855 as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, becoming the first of its kind in the United States. Subsequently, in 1863, the college was designated a land-grant institution under the Morrill Act, making it the pioneering land-grant college in the country. The university officially became coeducational in 1870 and attained university status in 1955.

Scholarship Requirements:
The African Studies Center at Michigan State University recognizes the limited opportunities for international African students studying at MSU to apply for grants and fellowships specifically designed for conducting research in Africa, typically reserved for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Hence, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Scholarships are exclusively available to African undergraduate or graduate students conducting research on the continent. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an MSU degree-granting program, and recipients of the award are expected to resume their studies at MSU in the semester following the award. Priority will be given to students in good academic standing and with demonstrated financial need. Additionally, applicants must successfully complete any MSU requirements related to conducting research abroad (such as IRB training). Fellowship recipients will be required to submit a report (3 to 5 pages) to the African Studies Center within one month of their return from Africa.

Scholarship Duration and Reward:
One or more fellowships of up to $2,000 will be awarded to cover travel and/or fieldwork expenses in Africa. The funds are intended to defray costs, and students are expected to seek additional funding if their expenses exceed the amount granted.
