The DAAD/NELGA Short-Stay Research Fellowship is a collaboration between over 70 prestigious African universities and research institutions that have demonstrated leadership in education, training, and research on land governance. This fellowship program is organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Details:
NELGA is a partnership between over 70 leading African universities and research institutions with proven expertise in education, training, and research on land governance. The objectives of NELGA are as follows:

- Enhancing training opportunities and curricula on land governance in Africa.
- Promoting demand-driven research on land policy.
- Connecting scholars and researchers across Africa.
- Creating data and information for monitoring and evaluating land policy reforms.
- Strengthening policy-research linkages.

Requirements:
To be eligible for this fellowship opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

- Have completed at least an undergraduate degree at a state or state-recognized institution of higher education.
- Be enrolled or employed at one of the partner universities or associated institutions within NELGA.
- Plan to return to your studies or duty station after completing the fellowship.
- Be a national from an African country.
- Obtain leave of absence from your home institution to conduct field study.

Scholarship Duration and Reward:
The fellowship includes the following benefits:

- A flat-rate travel allowance: EUR 280 for in-country, EUR 430 for neighboring countries, EUR 630 for in-region, and EUR 980 for out-of-region.
- A monthly research allowance of EUR 460.

The duration of the fellowship can range from one to three months, depending on the project and applicant's schedule. Only full months are eligible for funding, and the fellowship is not renewable.

Eligible Fields:
Applicants must have a background in land governance/land management or a related field such as land administration, land economics, urban and regional planning, or geomatics. Applications should cover key areas including:

- Land conflict prevention
- Land conflict analysis
- Land conflict resolution

Priority will be given to proposals that align with NELGA's research initiative on "Sustainable Management of Cross-Border Agropastoralist Conflicts in Central Africa." Please refer to the accompanying factsheet on this research initiative. The fellowships are tenable at state or state-recognized institutions of higher education or non-university research institutes in Central Africa. Financial support is not provided for research conducted at the applicant's home institution.

Method of Application:
To apply for this fellowship opportunity, please complete the following steps:

1. Fill out the DAAD application form available on their portal.
2. Prepare your Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications if applicable).
3. Provide a detailed description (up to 10 pages) of your research proposal along with information about previous research work.
4. Create a weekly schedule outlining your planned research activities.
5. Obtain a letter confirming supervision by an academic adviser at the host institute who supports your proposal and confirms that they will provide you with workspace (not applicable if conducting field studies).
6. Include copies of university diplomas/certificates and transcripts showing all annual academic examinations along with an explanation of grading systems.
