Labour Rejects FG's New Minimum Wage Offer, Demands N494,000

The Federal Government has proposed a new minimum wage of N60,000, a mere N3,000 increase from its previous offer of N57,000. However, organised labour, comprising the Trade Union Congress and the Nigeria Labour Congress, has rejected this offer, insisting on a minimum wage of N494,000.

According to sources, labour leaders were not pleased with the government's proposal during a meeting of the tripartite committee on minimum wage in Abuja on Tuesday. The labour leaders have made it clear that they will only consider a lower proposal if the government is willing to meet them halfway.

"We will only go lower if they go higher," said a labour leader. "They need to propose something reasonable for us to propose something lower too. We have a unified stand and will not budge until the government presents a reasonable offer."

The labour leaders have been adamant about their demand for a minimum wage of N494,000, and it seems that the government will need to do more to meet their demands. The negotiations are ongoing, and only time will tell if a compromise can be reached.
