Atletico Madrid is in a strong position to move to the Champions League semi-finals after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the Civitas Metropolitano in the first leg of their quarter-final match.

Atletico Madrid benefited greatly from the return of midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, who had been banned for the previous encounter against Villarreal. De Paul had an immediate impact, scoring just five minutes after capitalizing on Dortmund's defensive blunder.

Before halftime, Atletico Madrid increased their lead, with Antoine Griezmann taking advantage of another defensive lapse by Dortmund to set up Samuel Lino for a well-taken goal, giving the home team a comfortable lead.

Despite Atletico's domination, Dortmund managed to pull one back late in the game, with Sebastian Haller scoring in the 81st minute, offering a lifeline for the German team heading into the second leg.

With the tie perfectly balanced, both clubs enter the second leg in Dortmund with everything to play for. While Atletico Madrid will be frustrated to surrender late after a good first half performance, they still have the lead heading into the final meeting.

As the second leg approaches, football fans can anticipate a heated struggle between Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund as they compete for a coveted berth in the Champions League semifinals.
