The Echidna Global Scholars Program's Visiting Fellowship is hosted by the Center for Universal Education (CUE), within the Global Economy and Development program, at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. The Brookings Institution is a nonprofit public policy organization dedicated to conducting in-depth research that generates new ideas for addressing societal challenges at the local, national, and global levels.

Requirements:
The program seeks professionals with significant experience in and connections to the Global South, a clear intention to return to the Global South after the residency at Brookings, and a demonstrated commitment to improving learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming individuals in the field of education. Applicants should have a background in education, gender and/or women's studies, development, public policy, economics, or a related field in the social sciences or humanities. A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in research/academia, non-governmental organizations, community or civil society organizations, or government is required. Candidates with a mix of experience in academic or government settings and community organizations are particularly encouraged to apply.

A Master's degree is also required. Successful applicants should possess in-depth knowledge of education, development, and gender issues, strong analytical and writing skills, the ability to collaborate with others, openness to giving and receiving feedback, and the capacity and desire to learn with speed and adaptability. Proficiency in English is essential for all Echidna Global Scholars.

Priority Areas for 2024:
In 2024, the Echidna Global Scholars Program is specifically interested in leaders working on gender equality in and through education in the Global South. Priority consideration will be given to applicants focusing on the following areas based on recent research on the global status of gender and education, such as the EGER report of 2023:

1. Geographic priorities: West Africa, South Asia, Central America; countries and regions affected by conflict and crisis, with high levels of gender-based violence, child marriage, early childbearing, and limited sexual and reproductive health and rights.

2. Targeted actors and communities of interest: Socio-economically and politically marginalized girls, young women, and gender non-conforming individuals; children and youth experiencing homelessness; indigenous, migrant, displaced, or nomadic populations; out-of-school children and youth; and LGBTQ+ communities.
