The Yale Young African Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed for exceptional high school students from around the world. It offers intensive academic and enrichment activities to African secondary school students who plan to pursue higher education and aspire to become influential leaders on the continent.

Scholarship Details:
Participants in this program will enhance their academic skills, receive guidance on university admissions and career paths, and join a network of young leaders from across Africa. After completing the program, students will be paired with mentors who will provide advice throughout the university application process.


Requirements:
To be considered for the Yale Young African Scholars Program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Age between 16-18 years old by July 21, 2024 (first day of Session III)
- Proficiency in English to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English.
- Currently enrolled as a high school sophomore or junior (or international equivalent).
- Expected graduation date in May/June 2025 or 2026 from Northern Hemisphere schools or November/December 2024 or 2025 from Southern Hemisphere schools.
- First-time participant in YYGS. If you have previously attended a YYGS session during summer prior to 2023, you are not eligible for participation in YYGS in 2024.
Please note that if you applied to YYGS before but were not admitted or unable to attend AND meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above, you are encouraged to re-apply for YYGS in 2024.


Duration and Reward:
To ensure accessibility for students from all financial backgrounds, there is no cost associated with participating in YYAS.
The YYAS Summit is tuition-free ($0) and covers housing, meals, and academic materials.
Program Duration: 
YYAS College Prep Workshop (online; 5 days): July 18-23, 2024
YYAS Leadership Summit (residential in Zimbabwe; 10 days): August 9-18, 2024

Required Documents:
All applicants must submit the following application components:

One essay of up to 400 words and one response of up to 200 words
Two "fast take" responses (280 characters each)
Official school transcript
One recommender who will complete the YYGS Recommendation Form*
Application fee ($70 for Early Action and $85 for Regular Decision)
