This past weekend, Becoming Abi, a very intriguing Netflix series, caught my attention. An ambitious young creative from Lagos who gets her dream job at a prestigious advertising firm and navigates her way up the corporate ladder in the hopes of becoming successful is the subject of the six-episode drama series Becoming Abi. She needs to learn to get along with her superiors, make friends, and perhaps even fall in love.

Bolu Essien, who portrays Abiodun Adeoba, also known as Abi, is at the center of the story. The author did a wonderful job of illuminating Abi's ascent inside the advertising industry. She landed her first job as a client support representative at Creative Lens Group, a renowned advertising agency in Lagos, where she met Joyce, her coworker and best friend at work. She must negotiate the unfamiliar surroundings she has found herself in as she makes acquaintances and discovers that her Bimbo is excessively demanding.

She might take on additional difficulties as the story goes along and overcome various barriers. For her supervisor, Abi was able to ace a major presentation, which later helped her team land a new customer. She began looking for work at another advertising agency when her work under a new supervisor, Shade, was given credit to her colleague Shay.

Abi's situation takes a surprising turn when she is asked to step in for Shade when he manages one of their branches in South Africa for five months, making the two of them the team leaders with Joyce. She had her toughest career hurdles during this time.

Afterward, Abi gave her a possible romance with Israel, a coworker who eventually left the company for a better opportunity, a chance. When Abi learned that Daniel, a staff member of a client with whom she had to work closely on a campaign, had affection for her, her love life became extremely difficult.

She later had the opportunity to introduce Israel to her big mother as they advanced their romantic relationship. Abi received a second promotion to run the agency, but she has to manage the clients, demonstrate her leadership abilities, and settle the dispute between her closest friend Joyce and other workers.

One must respect the acting abilities of the entire cast and how well they were able to capture the atmosphere of an advertisement. Abi and Joyce had incredible chemistry, making their on-screen time in the series one to watch for.

The production team did an excellent job at capturing beautiful locations that accurately depict the advertising business. The producers shed light on comparable professional experiences through their stories.


The series frequently returned to themes like friendship, leadership, creativity, relationships, and the pursuit of ambition. Anyone seeking for a dialog-driven comedic drama series must watch it.
